style="color: #ff0000;">.

Cornwall is a lovely part of Britain, well away from Whitehall, avaricious bankers and stress! Here Spiezia grow many of the herbs and plants they use in their organic preparations, and make use of the beaches and countryside of Cornwall. People who live and work here, like those at Spiezia, have a sensible approach to life.

As Spiezia say, “everything we do centres around a philosophy that we call ‘Made for Life; so when they decided to set up a foundation to provide complementary pampering days, for women who have been diagnosed with cancer, the name was there: Made for Life.

.

WE JUST GRAVITATED TOWARDS FIONA’S TABLE WITH ALL ITS NVEYCO GOODIES !!!

One of the first groups to benefit from these fantastic ‘days’ were users of the Paul D’Auria Cancer Support Centre in Battersea. As a pre-Christmas treat, earlier this month Spiezia had organised a wonderful day filled with laughter, fun and lots of hugs, and finished it off with Pink Champagne!

I don’t drink – but there is something very therapeutic about watching pink bubbly being poured into a glass and listening to it fizz up. But even before that happened, people were chatting, laughing and swopping stories. We even had some brave men plunge into the middle of our group, and go off with happy smiles for head and neck massages.

Amanda Barlow, the founder, introduced the day, explaining that “part of our ethos has always been to give something back to society. Cancer is something which more and more people are facing these days. The feelings which people go through when diagnosed with cancer are overwhelming, and our ‘Made for Life’ campaign is about linking with our partners to provide complimentary days for cancer patients who need relaxation, friendship and laughter.

As Amanda pointed out, the Cancer nurses at their local Mermaid Centre in Cornwall have noticed a significant improvement in the women who have been on these days, which are fun and …. free!! “It’s about always giving something back, which is at the heart of Spiezia Organics ethos”.

After cups of Spiezia’s Tea (to be launched early next year when Amanda “gets the packaging right”), it was off for treatments including Reiki, Leg and Foot Massages, and Shane’s ‘Head in Heaven’ TM, Head Massages. All afternoon long people kept popping in and out of the treatment rooms with happy smiles on faces. It was a tough time – we had to choose between these and Elle’s Healing Foot and Hand Massages, etc. As I watched people coming out of the Hand Massage room with wide smiles on faces,it was obvious this has lots going for it!

Jo Wood Organics scattered candles scented with their lovely organic natural perfumes around the rooms, and Emily and Nina from the company managed to work miracles with all the appointments, as they juggled with everyone wanting to do everything, and managed to keep us all happy. Rock Chick Jo Wood had started the company, and is passionate about organics and natural scents – none of those horrid ‘chemical’ smelling candles for her!

The Therapists who came to look after us must have really needed a foot massage themselves by the end of the day. I watched Fiona Tanner, who normally makes up models for fashion shows and photographic work, on her feet all day, cheerfully making up one person after another, using a wonderful new line of organic make-up made by Nyveco.

Nyveco is a ‘new’ company on the British market, developed in Australia, where they are far in advance of us when it comes to organic make-up, and producing products for skins with problems from cancer drugs. This make-up felt very light and pure, and it was obvious from all Fiona’s make-overs that the products left left her ‘models’ looking glowing and enhanced; , with sensible tips that meant they could re-create the look at home. One admitted that she never bothered with make-up normally, but the reaction had been so good from friends it made her feel she should give something back by using Fiona’s hints and tips every day, so she would face the world with a happy face.

After a long, long day, as Fiona tidied up all her immaculate brushes and pots, she said she was off next morning to spend all day at a wedding, making up the bride, her bridesmaids and Mothers-in-law!

Sitting quietly in a corner dispensing advice was Faye and her colleague from Petit Bijoux, who were fantastically busy all afternoon. The South London Press had been intrigued, and done an article on the Made for Life day, explaining that Faye was going to be there to give advice about tattooing. But not ‘cosmetic’ tattoos – Faye does medical tattoos that replace what the surgeon and chemotherapy takes away.

One of the saddest things about chemotherapy is that, even though the NHS will provide wigs (some better than others), many people don’t want to wear them, because chemo causes you to lose eyebrows and lashes. No matter how good the wig, your face doesn’t look right without these. But with Fiona showing us how to ‘feather’ in very natural looking brows, and Faye to give specialist advice about having eyebrows and eye-liners tattood on semi-permanently, our faces can start to look ‘alive’ again.

But even more important, Faye had come to talk about areaola tattoos to replace nipples. In some areas the NHS will fund this, but in other cases Petit Bijoux are able to provide the treatment for free in their salon in Ebury Street, in London’s smart Belgravia area. Fiona says you will probably need to have two sessions, as this type of tattoo can fade and needs ‘touching up’ when it has settled down.

Eyebrows are re-defined using thin ‘brush stroke’ tattoos, so they look completely natural, and she says eyes can be defined by using small dots along the eye-line line, which looks much more natural than a heavy single line.

Incidentally, if you are worried about scaring, Faye says they have treatments that can reduce the appearance or refine the scar, so that it is much less noticeable.

If you work for Spiezia, you all chip in whenever there is a Made for Life Event. Half way through the afternoon a delicious cake appeared, baked by the lovely Jenny Hall-Thompson from ProActive PR, who handles the PR for Spiezia. First time I have ever known a PR actually get into the kitchen and bake a cake – and such a wonderful one too!

At the end of the day there were nearly thirty very happy centre users, leaving clutching goodie bags, and I suspect some extremely tired therapists – but everyone said they had enjoyed the day. One wrote to say “thank for organising such an interesting, relaxing, informative and uplifting day. I floated out of the Centre”. Very many thanks for a wonderful day with our heads in heaven”.

If you want a similar day at YOUR centre, contact Amanda at Made for Life, because they may be able to organise a day for your centre users MADE FOR LIFE LAUNCHES

Organised by the skin care company Spiezia, everything we do at Spiezia centres around a philosophy that we call ‘Made for Life.’

‘Made for Life’ is about us, our health and the way live. It’s about making choices that not only contributes to our own well-being and makes us feel good about life, but that also contribute to the well-being of the world we live in.

We create more than just amazing, totally organic skincare products. Since our inception we have done things differently, leading by example with a fresh approach to skincare and life in general. That’s one of the reasons why we set up the ‘Made for Life’ foundation where we head and provide complementary days for women who have been diagnosed with cancer. These days are filled with laughter, fun, support and love.

From the outset of Spiezia Organics, founded by Sally and Amanda as Directors, some 7 years ago, the aim has been to develop both a training programme and support days together with a centre, in Cornwall, based on our Made for Life Philosophy. The vision has always been that this centre will provide support in several areas to the Cornish community and economy.

Part of our ethos has always been to give something back to society. Cancer is something which more and more people are facing these days. The feelings which people go through when diagnosed with cancer are overwhelming and our ‘Made for Life’ campaign is about linking with our partners to provide complimentary days for women (and in the future men) who need some relaxation, friendship and laughter. In addition Spiezia Organics commitment has always been to developing awareness and educating both children and adults on the importance of nutrition, a holistic approach to life, sustainability and also the importance of organic farming.

MADE FOR LIFE DAYS
Spiezia will be hosting Made for Life Days across Britain for those diagnosed with or recovering from cancer in Harvey Nichols stores across the country (see report). Each day consists of help from different specialists, that might include complimentary Spiezia massages, hair and wig advice from the My New Hair team, nutritional advice and make overs by Bare Minerals, the organic make up line. etc.

Many of our partners and stockists are supporting us in this initiative. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Amanda Barlow or Sally Read, the Directors of Spiezia Organics and Founders of the Made for Life Foundation.<br
